Brown Wins

I’m not going to oversell this one but it’s pretty amazing that a Republican has won Teddy Kennedy’s old seat and will be the first Republican senator from Massachusetts since the 1950′s. I am reminded on this occasion of the person I overheard on a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard the day after Bush defeated John Kerry in 2004. Their statement then was, “How could the rest of the country be so stupid?”

The chickens have come home to roost.

The GOP has a long, long, long way to go before we earn back the country’s trust or deserve it. This is a symbolic victory but one we really need for the months ahead. I’m going to be completely partisan when I say I hope this is a sign of good things to come.
