What I’m reading while on vacation:
A review of Theodore Roosevelt: Preacher of Righteousness
This thoroughly depressing piece by Daniel Larison
A whole bunch of stuff by Joel Kotkin
What I’m writing:
Not much. I’ve written outlines for several posts and keep hitting walls. This afternoon, as we drove through desolate northern New Mexico, with me in the backseat scribbling in frustration, I almost decided to give up political blogging for awhile. Everytime I try to write about conservatism these days it feels very hypocritical. Yes, I spend more time talking polical theory than practice, and maybe that makes what I do okay…but then I wonder if I am just leaving the party to languish by talking rather than doing. Or is this my way of doing? I certainly can’t picture myself running for office or volunteering massive amounts of time for a candidate I only agree with on half the issues at best. Maybe I just need a better candidate?
Anyway, we hit Colorado, the landscape turned green and suddenly I felt invigorated. I’ve confirmed what I always suspected, which is that I’m definitely not a desert kind of guy. But so far Colorado is BEAUTIFUL. We’ll see what comes out of my pen tomorrow.
