Prop 8 Ruled Constitutional

I’m quite sure this will dominate the media (and the blogosphere) for the next week so here is my two cents:

With the quiet acceptance (even among conservatives) of pro-gay marriage laws in Vermont and elsewhere that were passed throught the normal legislative process, I think we have seen the blueprint laid out for gay marriage proponents. You cannot do this through the courts. You must convince your fellow citizens, allow them to convince their elected leaders and then allow laws to be passed.

We will no doubt see this issue continually hammered in California until gay marriage supporters get their majority (only 52% voted in favor of Prop 8). It won’t take long to get another 3% on board. Once that happens, officials will get in line quickly.
