Civics Lessons

Thanks to Ames for drawing my attention to this new site started by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Ourcourts.org is aimed at restoring the importance of a good civics education in American classrooms and I applaud the effort.
As a history major and someone who has passionately loved civics for as long as I can remember I am always saddened by polls that come out demonstrating just how poorly educated our children are with regards to civics. I have always believed that being knowledgeable about civics is the first step towards being a good citizen. It’s also the best way to cast an intelligent vote when asked to do so. For the parents of kids who are probably being short-changed by an educational system that over-emphasizes some subjects and neglects others, it’s our duty to fill in the gaps. This site is a great place to start doing that.
*P.S. Watch the video clips at Ames’ site if you have time. O’Connor is a great interview.
