He was a Rhodes Scholar, so I guess he got smarter...but that's doesn't mean he's got all the answers (we agree that his position on ID is crazy).

While the delivery was bad...I can forgive that. The problem was that the speech was so...as you put it....tired. And it was very ego-centric. It felt more like his first campaign speech rather than a policy speech that was supposed to represent millions of conservatives.

I finally got to see the Jindal speech on YouTube last night.

I was amazed at how much he really did sound like Kenneth from 30 Rock but didn't think his delivery was any worse than Kathy Sebelius in her Democrat response to President Bush's State of the Union address last January.

I don't hold Kathy's robo cop response against her so I doubt I'll hold Jindal's Kenneth speech against him in the future.

What I had a problem with was his criticism of funding for volcano monitoring. I don't know the specifics of how that money is being spent and how it relates to the economy, but I tend to believe that the government should be concerned about keeping an eye on something that has the possibility of erupting and destroying entire communities with hot lava.

Mike,
So here's one of those six degrees of separation twists - Bobby Jindal and I went to middle school together. And trust me, he wasn't a stand out there in any way. That said, he's risen in Louisiana politics, so I guess he's learned a thing or two since we were both Panthers.

As to the speech - I too believe in the ability of Americans to do anything. This includes generating new ideas on how to lift the economy, not trotting out the same, tired tax cuts will save us all references.
