The 6 Word Memoir

Our friend the Turkish Prawn has tagged us with a meme. This one is kind of interesting. The rules:

The idea is to write your memoir or epitaph in six words. If you can add an image to go along with it, so much the better.

Then, simply sneak up behind 5 unsuspecting friends and whap them in the back of the head with it. Links need to be provided to the person who whapped you and to the originator of the meme, so they can see how far the thing goes. You can check out the place where it all began for a better explanation of the rules.

My 6 words actually came to me pretty fast.

“Talks a lot, but never boring.”

I’m Irish…sue me. Everything reminds me of a story and I truly think my friends consider my brain some sort of archive of our childhood. One friend actually told me, “I don’t really try to remember any details from when we were kids because I can just ask you.”  When I talk to people it’s sort of like one of those Garrison Keilor stories about Lake Wobegon. 5 minutes into the conversation we both have no idea where it started but eventually I come back around and wrap the whole thing up. I guess I write like that too.

I’ve never tried to write a memoir. My childhood and adolecense was far too average. I consider that a blessing. Recently though I’ve started thinking a lot about my ‘legacy’. We had a good friend pass away in May far too young and of course it makes you think. My wife and I took the time to write down our last wishes. It wasn’t sad, it was actually kind of liberating. I feel like the best thing I can leave behind is closure. No unfinished business, no grudges, no words unspoken, no question marks. I asked my wife to put three words on my tombstone, “Friend, Father, Husband.” That’s all I need. Maybe that should have been incorporated into my 6 word memoir, but somehow it seems separate. Well, enough of that… onto my victims.
