I guess because the garden is coming in and the weather has been fantastic the last few days, it’s making me sappy. I just thought this would be fun to post. This is from the Kentucky Derby in May. I was about 100 yards away from the spot where the video was taken. Take notice of the hats. This year we took some Derby rookies from South Carolina and I hope we made them fans for life. The wife of the couple we went with leaned over and told me she got goosbumps during the chorus. There’s nothing quite like hearing 100,000 people singing your state song. I’ve included the words so you can sing along at home. For the next five minutes, you’re all honorary Kentuckians.
My Old Kentucky Home (Words and music by Stephen Foster)
The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
‘Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top’s ripe and the meadow’s in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By’n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
Chorus
Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for my old Kentucky home,
For my old Kentucky home far away.
