Tragic Day for Scouting

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of the four young men who died in yesterday’s tornado in Iowa. It is a terrible thing to see something like this happen, especially when these Scouts were simply doing what Scouts do best, enjoying the natural world. I cannot imagine how hard this is for these parents and it is my sincere hope that they will be well cared for by their local communities and the larger Scouting community.

To the young men who helped with the response effort after the tornado, who put their training and their bravery into good use helping their fellow Scouts, you demonstrated that line in the Scout oath which commands that we ”Help other people at all times”.

For the four young men whose lives were taken, may the Great Scoutmaster of All Scouts be with you.

Once a Scout, always a Scout.

  1. didionsmommy says:

my husband is an eagle scout.

we are both very upset about this.

  2. When I think about the literally hundreds of days and nights I spent in the outdoors as a Scout I feel lucky I never experienced a tragedy like this. As a former Scout I am so saddened by the loss of these young men who were no doubt benefitting from the Scouting experience and would have made a positive impact in the world.

My kids are off to camp in a week. This isn’t the kind of stuff you want to hear.

  3. May the Lord grant surpassing GRACE to the families of these
wonderful brave Scouts. I have been and will be praying for them. May we always remember Josh, Ben, Sam & Aaron.
